Invited by the Blachère Foundation, for a residency led by Versant Sud in Apt, Kyle Meyer, an American artist, trained in weaving in the kingdom of Eswatini (ex-Swaziland). For his residency, he imagined works mixing Wax fabric and photography.

The textile work (Dis)Member tells the story of a man of Ghanaian origin whose desire attracts him to men. A legacy of 19th century British colonial legislation, same-sex relations remain prohibited in Ghana and punishable by imprisonment.

Occupying the central space, this life-size man faces. Arms open, he adopts an iconic posture. A paradox in a country where religion has made homosexuality a perversion. Its culture, represented here by the fabric intertwines it, it dresses it and inhabits it.
​
Through this man, Kyle Meyer pays homage to any man or woman oppressed by his own culture because of his sexual orientation by adorning him in a sacred posture with a royal fabric reserved for the elites.
The two side figures are set against a neutral background.
Expressing a certain hesitation to join the central character to live in this setting, this man wonders: should he follow his vital impulse in a societal context that deprives him of his fundamental rights or should he flee?

The Jean-Paul Blachère corporate foundation, since 2004, wants to participate in the development of Africa by helping contemporary creation and the promotion of its artists. In its art center, it presents exhibitions and welcomes artists in residence. She also organizes creative workshops in Africa and Europe and participates in major African biennials, including that of Dakar in particular. She is in charge of the conservation of the works of the Blachère Collection.
