Sewing: eyelets and reinforcements specific to sailing upholstery.
Laureate of the Passages residency, Manon Garcia del Barrio is a textile artist who lives and works in Marseille.
In Lagos, she wove a sail which reflects her portrayal of Lagos' identity between city life and nature. She learned traditional textile patterns such as Aso Oke which she reinterpreted in her weaving.

" In the immensity of the port of Lagos, Passages Tissés is a poetic fragment. An object that contrasts with the frenzy of commercial and urban activity. This veil is a banner. It symbolizes the urgency to slow down and the need to reconnect with nature. When sailing, we are forced to listen to the elements; the rippling sea, the wind rising and giving direction, the wood of the hull creaking under our feet. In Lagos, I see the water hyacinth invading the lagoon, as if nature was trying to reclaim its rights in this concrete jungle. Plastic is everywhere around us. The fishermen create their sail with plastic bags of rice. I observe Lagos and cannot help but draw the parallel with my dear Massilia; What if we started a journey to a different society? "

The sail was able to parade in the port of Apapa on a unique wooden boat at world: the Tarpon. This collectible boat is only made in Nigeria and only twenty boats still exist today.
Manon Garcia del Barrio collaborated and worked with a local craftsman, Ibrahim Moruff, a weaver in Lagos, and the Lagos Yatch club, which made possible the navigation and the development of these unique boats, the Tarpons.
